Supreme Leader: Nuclear Deal Will Be Aborted if Sanctions not Fully Terminated

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei made it clear on Thursday that maintaining sanction on Iran will deteriorate the recent nuclear agreement.

Iran: Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali KhameneiThe Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei made it clear on Thursday that maintaining sanction on Iran will deteriorate the recent nuclear agreement.

"US officials say they are to maintain the framework of economic sanctions against Iran and if they are to maintain sanctions what was the purpose of mutual talks? And this totally was in total contradiction with Iran's presence in nuclear talks as the main goal was termination of economic sanctions," underlined the Supreme Leader.

"If we ignored some of our stands and gave them privileges in nuclear talks, it was for termination of economic sanctions and there was no other reason to continue talks and we were able to increase the number of our centrifuges from 19,000 to 50-60 thousands in short run and even continued 20 percent enrichment of uranium and also speed up pace of research and development in the field," said the Supreme Leader.

"If sanctions are not terminated, there will be no deal and the status of such situation should be clarified," said Imam Khamenei.

In a meeting with members of Assembly of Experts, Imam Khamenei urged that said that the unilateral sanctions enforced by the US and European governments should be terminated despite claims by the negotiating parties that termination of some of the sanctions has nothing to do with the US administration.

"The US administration talks about Iran in the same way used by the British colonialism in the 19th century, and it seems they [US and UK] are two centuries far behind the contemporary world, but the fact is that the world has changed and the then global powers have lost their power and practicality," his eminence said.

"However, the Islamic Republic of Iran -- with reliance on identified capabilities and what due to be publicized in due time -- is not like an under developed country to allow others to deal with it as they wish," underlined the Supreme Leader.

Imam Khamenei said the US officials wish that the Iranian negotiating team would ignore the Islamic values, but such a thing will never happen.

"If anyone dare to do it, the Iranian nation and government will never accept it," the Supreme Leader stressed.

"The US attempted to uproot the resistance forces and it is seeking full control over Syria and Iraq and expect Iran to conform to its policy, something which will never happen," said the Supreme Leader.

Addressing the joint plan, Imam Khamenei said that the Iranian officials under no circumstances should let the US make use of opportunity created under implementation of JCPOA inside or outside of the country as they will exploit the opportunity to bring humiliation, misery and backwardness to nations of the region.

The Supreme Leader emphasized the need to proceed with the Economic Resistance [Economic Jihad], saying the relevant program is very comprehensive and inseparable, and its implementation requires a full practical plan of action.

His eminence also urged Iranian officials to give strong response to rhetoric of US officials, and urged the Iranian people as well not to be deceived by smile of the enemy.

"All officials including members of the Assembly of Experts should exercise vigilance not to be trapped by the plots hatched by arrogant powers and merely focus on rendering services to nation," said the Supreme Leader, elaborating that the enemies spare no efforts to dictate own literature on the governments in order to influence their decision-making procedures.

Ayatollah Khamenei expressed regret that the international community adopts double-standard policy when it labels the resistance groups in Lebanon and Palestine as terrorism, while the atrocities of suppressive governments in the region and the persistent six-month long bombardment of residential areas in Yemen and carnage of Yemeni civilians have nothing to do with terrorism.

"In the US literature, assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists is not terrorism although the Zionist regime and a number of European countries explicitly have confessed to their role," his eminence went on to say.

The Supreme Leader invited all experts and intellectuals to express their views on legal aspects of the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action and believes that Majlis should also consider it as well.

"I give no suggestion to Majlis to ratify or reject JCPOA and it is among the responsibility of the Majlis representatives to study it and make proper decision," Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei concluded.
