Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi on Sunday called for a comprehensive military and political confrontation with militants of the Takfiri group, ISIL.

"What is needed is a clear decision for a comprehensive confrontation, militarily and politically," Arabi said at a meeting of Arab foreign ministers.

He said ISIL posed a threat to the existence of Iraq and other states in the region.

"What is happening in Iraq is that the terrorist organization not only threatens a state's authority, but threatens its very existence and the existence of other states," AL Chief stated.

An Arab League diplomat told reporters that the ministers were considering adopting a resolution on combating ISIl and "coordinating with the United States to confront this terrorist organization".

Earlier on Saturday, Arabi and US Secretary of State "discussed the need for the Arab League and its members to take a strong position in the coalition that is developing against ISIL," a senior State Department official said.

They also spoke of "the importance of decisive action to stop the flow of foreign fighters, counter ISIL's financing and combat its incitement," the official added.
