United NationsThe United Nations called Friday for an immediate "humanitarian pause" of at least a few hours each day in Yemen to allow desperately needed aid to enter the conflict-ravaged country.

There must be an "immediate humanitarian pause in this conflict," said Johannes Van Der Klaauw, the UN's humanitarian coordinator in Yemen, calling for the air space over the country to be cleared for "a few hours at least" each day to allow aid to be flown in.

The Saudi-led coalition on March 26 began air strikes against Yemen, killing or wounding hundreds of civilians and causing much destruction across the state.
