Mashnouq: Terrorist Network behind Burj Barajneh Blasts Arrested within 48 Hours

The Lebanese Interior Minister Nuhad Al-Mashnouq announced on Sunday that the suicide blasts, which rocked Burj al-Barajneh in Beirut’s Dahiyeh, were preliminarily planned to target Al-Rasoul Al-Aazam hospital

MashnouqThe Lebanese Interior Minister Nuhad Al-Mashnouq announced  on Sunday that the suicide blasts, which rocked Burj al-Barajneh in Beirut's Southern Suburb, were preliminarily planned to target Al-Rasoul Al-Aazam hospital (near the attack's scene) by five suicide bombers and that the security measures which surround it drove the plotters to change their scheme.

In a press conference, Al-Mashnouq said that the security forces managed within 48 hours to arrest all the members of the terrorist network which was responsible for Burj al-Barajneh suicide blasts.

"Seven Syrians and two Lebanese, including the suicide bombers' smuggler, were arrested."

"The terrorists were distributed over two flats- the first is in Burj al-Barajneh, and the other is in Ashrafiyeh where they used to prepare the explosive vests."

He also revealed that the Lebanese who was arrested in Tripoli with an explosive vest had plans to carry out a suicide attack in Jabal Mohsen.

Describing Sayyed Nasrallah's speech on Saturday as responsible and serious, Al-Mashnouq stressed the importance of the national unity and the political stability in face of terrorism.

Al-Mashnouq also vowed a continuous anti-terrorist crackdown although "reaching a total security is unrealistic".

Two suicide blasts rocked on Thursday the area of Burj al-Barajneh in Beirut's Southern Suburb (Dahiyeh), leaving over 43 martyrs and 211 injured.
