Lebanon Defense Minister Heads to Tehran, Military Aid on Table

Lebanese Minister of Defense Samir Moqbel headed to Tehran on Saturday to discuss latest Iranian aid to Lebanon.

Moqbel visit to Tehran came upon an official invitation by his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Hussein Dehqan.

Moqbel is accompaned by a military delegation is to discuss latest regional and international developments as well as bilateral relations with Iranian officials during his three-day stay in Tehran.

Iran's military donation to Lebanon is the core of Moqbel's talks with his Iranian counterpart as well as ways to promote Iran-Lebanon defense relations.

While in Iran, the Lebanese minister is to inspect military achievements of Iran's Defense Ministry.

On September 30, Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani said during a visit to Beirut that Tehran is to provide military equipment to the Lebanese Army for its anti-terrorism struggles.

Over the past months, Lebanon has been the scene of terrorist strikes by al-Qaeda-linked militants as well as random rocket attacks targeting the residential area.

Speaking on Thursday afternoon following a meeting with Leader of the Free Patriotic Movement Michel Aoun, the Lebanese defense minister told reporters that he is to discuss the types of military donation to Lebanon.

Moqbel said he will hand over a report on details of Iran's military aid to the Lebanese cabinet after returning to Lebanon.

According to a latest report published by the Lebanese al-Manar TV network, Iran's military donation will include Doshka machine guns, 60 and 129mm launchers with their ammunitions, night-vision binoculars, TOW anti-armor missiles, 155mm artillery and tank ammunitions.
