Egypt security: car bomb in SinaiAn Egyptian court sentenced to death seven men, including Adel Habara, charged with killing 25 policemen last year in an attack near the border with Occupied Palestine, judicial sources said on Saturday.

The attack took place in August 2013 following the government's violent clearing of two protest camps in Cairo, where supporters of deposed president Mohammad Morsi had gathered to demand his reinstatement.

The ruling, which can be appealed, followed the endorsement of the death sentence by the Grand Mufti, Egypt's highest Sunni Muslim authority.

The court also slapped three militants with life sentences and 22 others with 15-year jail terms each in connection with the killing.

Saturday's ruling are still subject to appeal.

Prosecutors had accused the defendants of conspiring with the Al-Qaeda terrorist group and committing "terrorist crimes" in North Sinai and the Nile Delta province of Sharqiya.

This is the second death sentence against Habbara, who the Egyptian authorities accuse of masterminding the mass killing of the police conscripts in North Sinai.
